A Good Run is a work of historcal fiction set in the American Civil War. At the end of the war, twenty-year old Private Joseph McDonald
has nowhere to go. He is homeless, jobless, and his family is dead. He decides to head West to Ft. Smith, Arkansas, a place
that was not as severely affected by the war as Tennessee. A new start in a new place with new people awaits him.
Joseph falls in love with a beautiful woman named Maria whose departure leaves him desolate once again.
His determination, perseverence, work ethic and endless willpower help him overcome his struggles. He accepts an offer for the post of captain of
the Arkansas State militia. he battles heartless river pirates, helps the Cherokee Indians protect their tribe's land, and controls
land grabbed by non-citizens. He is a true patriot who believes in and fights for the equality of all men. When Joseph discovers a secret from his past,
it tremendously affects him and his life is altered forever. After yet another family tragedy strikes him, he fights with
Teddy Roosevelt in the Spanish-American War. After the war ends, Roosevelt asks Joseph to help him with work in a government plan that requires him
to travel across the world. The rest of the book relates the serious challenges he faces, the threats that loom over him,
and the danger he encounters. It is an engaging tale full of suspense.
